Cyber Essentials Scheme

So you’ve had the Governments Cyber Essentials Scheme land on your desk and you’re wondering what to do with it?

We’re here to help!

The Cyber Essentials Scheme is a relatively low-level certification for IT security, which is intended to help protect small businesses from costly Cyber-Attack. It is now a requisite for companies involved in the government supply chain. Fortunately, it’s not hugely onerous like ISO 27001 but does require some IT knowledge, often some procedural changes and occasionally additional software services.

RSCC have already helped a number of companies with this, and can provide either a helping hand with specific areas or a fully managed project, along with the supporting documentation for certification. We can also provide the software services and draft the on-going procedures where required.

This is far more than a box-ticking exercise – If implemented correctly it genuinely reduces your risk of business disruption and loss of funds.

The Cyber Essentials Scheme covers to a level suitable for small businesses:

Configuration of Boundary Firewalls
Secure configuration
Access Control
Malware Protection
Patch management.

In some cases it may be prudent to implement more stringent controls than required for the scheme, which we can help with.
It doesn’t cover other common IT issues – such as backups, hardware maintenance & disaster recovery, HR issues such as web filtering and AUP’s, hardware monitoring etc. All things we can assist with.

For many small companies with the basics already in place, the certification and documentation can be achieved in a day, but it will vary greatly on a company by company basis. Please call Richard on 01462 458571 for a chat on how we can assist.
